Lakes & swimming fun
Head for the sun and into the cool waters in the Salzburg Lake District & in the Salzkammergut region
Just one look at the map of the area around Salzburg and Hallwang is enough to instantly understand: water sports and swimming fun reign here. It doesn't matter whether you're planning to see the Salzburg Lake District with Mattsee and Obertrumersee or going deeper into the Salzkammergut region. Just one thing counts: the lakes in the Salzburger Land region are all worth a trip.
Just around the corner in the Salzburg Lake District
The Salzburg Lake District's motto is discover, relax, enjoy and this is most apt. However, for you as a guest at Landgasthof Kirchbichl one thing counts above all: the lakes just outside the city of Salzburg are literally just around the corner. The Salzburg Lake District is just a few minutes' drive away from Hallwang and includes four lakes: Wallersee, Mattsee, Grabensee, Obertrumer See. Superb water quality and a slightly hilly landscape characterise its appearance and you are sure to remember them for a long time to come.
Whatever a water sports enthusiast's heart desires
It's mainly the lidos that attract many guests to the lake district in the summer. But sailing and surfing schools and various boat hire places can also get a water sports enthusiast's pulse racing. The whole thing is linked up by an extremely well developed network of cycle paths. A little tip: leave your car behind and grab an e-bike - with this you can reach the Salzburg Lake District without any stress and hectic rush but with healthy exercise.
The Salzkammergut region - these lakes are in the area near us:
- Mondsee - a swimming lake and a bit more
- Fuschlsee - the gate to the Salzkammergut region
- Attersee - Austria's largest lake
- Traunsee - Austria's deepest lake
- Wolfgangsee - a fishing paradise with traditional boat trips
It looks like choosing is not going to be that easy. Would you like to go sunbathing & swimming? Then why not start with the Mondsee. This is really easy to reach from Hallwang and is a real highlight with its warm water temperature. If you want to combine a day's swimming with a bit of sport then we recommend Fuschlsee. The running circuit on the stunning forest paths around Fuschlsee can be completed in about an hour. Despite this you will look forward to jumping into the crystal clear lake.
The very best of water sports
Great emphasis is placed on diving throughout the Salzkammergut region. You can find experienced diving schools at most lakes that will get you closer to the underwater world of the lakes. However, only at the wonderful Attersee there is an underwater magical place. It's obvious that Austria's largest lake offers great opportunities for water sports but only here can you dive to the underwater menhirs.
The wind as your constant companion
Attersee, Mondsee, Traunsee, Wolfgangsee: these are the large Salzkammergut lakes and therefore real hot spots for surfing& sailing. At Mondsee you can find the largest sailing school in the German-speaking region - sailing with the great Drachenwand panorama. As a result of the good wind conditions, the Traunsee is considered to be a real secret insider tip on the windsurfer & kite surfer scene. Naturally this also applies to Attersee, after all it is the largest of all the lakes in the Salzkammergut region.
